Every farmer cultivates his land for the benefit of his family and the preservation of his own existence. On this path, the ultimate goal is the achievement of the best yields, and the placement of the crop at a more optimal market price. The weather cannot be influenced, but by using appropriate agricultural techniques and good agricultural practice, as well as by choosing the assortment, we can achieve the best possible result of our work.
Land preparation
The most common starter crops for small grains are rapeseed, sunflower, soybeans and corn. It is important to remove the pre-grass in time so that they have enough time to prepare the soil for sowing small grains. Lately, there has been an increasing use of reduced tillage - disc harrows (fuel is used more economically and the number of passes is reduced). First of all, the NPK formulation should be applied according to the basic soil analysis.
Sowing
For the uniform growth of the plant, as well as for uniform development, it is necessary to sow at the same depth and make sure that no seeds remain on the surface of the soil. The sowing date is also a determining factor for the further course of the vegetation. The optimal time for sowing small grains is 10-25. October. For winter barley, the optimal period used to be at the beginning of October, but in recent years we have noticed that this has also changed. Barley should not be sown before 10-15. October, mostly because of the climate changes that are happening. In autumn, it is warmer and more suitable for the development of diseases and pests such as aphids and cicadas, which are vectors of the yellow dwarf virus. Therefore, our goal is to sow small grains around the middle of October in order to reduce as much as possible the exposure of the crop to the previously mentioned pests and diseases.
